About the Magazine

It is my pleasure to present a new project to you from the Independent Media publishing house. The Hermitage Magazine isn't just a publication about history and culture - it's the result of collaboration between two of the leading partners in their own spheres. The State Hermitage is keen to share its collections, knowledge and ideas with the Magazine's readers, while Independent Media is investing its vast experience in the publishing industry in the project. We hope that the Hermitage Magazine will attract people who are fascinated by history and art. It is our hope that our readers will not only be experts in their professional capacities, but also in their interests and pastimes.

Derk Sauer General Director, Independent Media

The Hermitage is a great international museum, which possesses numerous dimensions. A storehouse for masterpieces, an aca emic and scientific center and an educational bastion, it communicates with the world in a host of diverse forms. These include its own theater, orchestra and Academy of Music, the Hermitage Radio Station, a film studio and a newspaper. A special place in the life of the Museum is occupied by the Hermitage Magazine. It has already become a vital element in the "Hermitage world space", and today it is about to embark on a new phase in its development. Its partner is to be the Independent Media publishing house.
In collaboration with Independent Media, we intend to attract a wider circle of cultured readers in Russia, as well as significantly
broadening its traditional audience abroad. We hope that this new dimension to the Hermitage will attract new visitors to the Museum and new readers to the Magazine.

Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum
